Notes:

From the top of the temple it is a long way down, but the point is the temptation has stepped up a level. Always remember that Satan knows the Bible at least as well as anybody else. “If you are the son of God … then claim this promise.”
Ps 91:11 For he will command his angels n concerning you to guard you in all your ways; o
Ps 91:12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. p
Imagine it – the sight of it. A man carried to the ground by angels. Even those who didn't see the angels would be amazed that someone could fall from such a height and survive. The height was 60 cubits, about 27 metres or the same height as a nine story building. Then you could tell them that you're the son of God, and they'd believe you!
Well Jesus still has the words of God from his Baptism to hold on to. He knows that there is a plan to follow, a mission to complete. There is still the chance he could do it his way, or he could do it God's way.
Jesus knows scripture very well also, and reminds Satan that there are other commands in scripture, such as Deuteronomy 6:16 “Do not test the Lord your God as you did at Massah”
